As a business owner or manager, there are a lot of hiring decisions that you will need to be involved in.

One question that comes up on a regular basis is whether you should hire an intern.

Offering an internship can come with a few setbacks, but there are also many benefits to both the intern you hire and your business. If you are still asking, “Should I hire an intern?” here are some of the reasons why you should.

1. They can become brand advocates

Students on their first internships are usually excited about getting their first taste of the real working world.

Whether their job is to help you spread the word about your company or they are simply telling family and friends about their experience, they can easily become your best brand advocates.

If they have a great mentor within the company, you can get even more positive feedback when they tell their story to others.

2. Interns can be a part of big projects

Big projects are never easy to complete.

There are often more tasks than your team can thoroughly complete some days. An intern can not only help you with some of these tasks, but they can also bring a fresh perspective to projects that may be running into some problems.

A good internship supervisor will make sure the intern participates in projects and provides their opinion during brainstorming sessions. For companies and brands that target teens and young adults, the intern’s view can be invaluable.

3. Interns can turn into employees

Depending on how you set up your internship process, you can easily hire interns that can turn into full-time employees.

The best way to do this is to actively seek interns that are in their senior year of college or who have just graduated. That way, you can evaluate their skills and if they meet your standards, you can provide a full-time position once the internship ends.
