HR Needs to Get Stupid

It’s time for HR to try something “stupid.”

Now Mary Faulkner, director of talent acquisition at Denver Water, wasn’t suggesting HR people should jump out of a plane without a parachute. What she was suggesting to her DisruptHR Denver audience, was that HR needs to be a pot-stirrer:

“Tell the emperor  they have no clothes. Be willing to push back. Be willing to question whether or not you really should roll out that new policy.”

What’s this all about? Taking risks. “Leadership looks at HR and thinks, ‘You are risk averse,'” Faulkner says, acknowledging there is some truth to that.

And that is why “We all need to dare to be stupid. Stupid being risk-taking.”

Spend the next five minutes hearing her formula for being that kind of stupid.
