EEOC Pushes Employer Deadline For Filing EEO-1 Reports Back to Oct. 30

If you are one of the 70,000 plus employers across the U.S. required to file an annual EEO-1 by September 30, 2015, you have an extra month.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission extended the deadline for filing the annual compliance survey to October 30, 2015.

Most private employers with more than 99 workers, and federal contractors and some of their subcontractors with government contracts of $50,000 or more and 50 or more employees, must file the EEO-1 report. The report requires employers to provide the EEOC data on your full- and part-time workers broken down by race/ethnicity, gender, and job category.

The EEOC’s Joint Reporting Committee granted the blanket extension to give companies additional time to comply with the changes made to the EEO-1 report. The most significant change requires company locations with the same address and same NAICS code to consolidate those locations into one record.

Changes of note in the EEO-1

Companies with multiple locations “are required to submit a separate report for each location of the company with 50 or more employees as well as locations with fewer than 50 employees,” according to the EEOC rules.

Two other changes are specifically noted by the EEOC:

  • Companies are now able to obtain and reset their passwords.
  • The requirement to provide the employer identification number (EIN) for each establishment location will be more carefully monitored.

Online filing is the preferred method. Companies filing the EEO-1 report last year were sent filing instructions last month. New companies and those filing for the first time can register here.
