Healthcare Costs and the Collision With Employee Rights

Speaking at a DisruptHR meeting in Denver last year, Coan said it is up to the professionals in human resources to address the problem and take action.

“You have to get in and fight,” said Coan, CEO of ALN Medical Management. “You’ve got to be part of the discussion to find a righteous, good, financially sustainable answer to balance he rights of employees and healthcare costs.”

With much of the cost of employer healthcare attributed to unhealthy lifestyles, age and mental health problems, the temptation is “for your boss, the CFO or somebody nasty, is going to say, ‘We just need to make them go away.” And that, says Coan, makes it an HR problem.
