Best of TLNT: Top 5 Diversity & Inclusion Stories of 2020

Perhaps you may have noticed that TLNT is not running any 2021 predictions articles. Believe me, it’s not because of a lack of people and companies pitching such stories.

The reason why we’re not taking part in this annual rite seen at so many other publications is because most predictions are lame. Strip out the year and you’d swear you read the same prophecies in 2019. Or was it 2018? Maybe you saw them in 2015? 2010?

Oh, who are we kidding? You’ll probably read them again in 2021 and 2031.

In no area of HR is this truer than diversity and inclusion. “Experts” have been claiming for years — decades! — that D&I will be a hot topic “next year.” And guess what? They’ve never been wrong.

That’s the problem. They’ve never been wrong because so many organizations continue to struggle to get D&I right.

I long for a time when D&I will no longer be a critical problem for HR to address…because it won’t be a problem. Yet I also know we are a long way from that.

Here’s a look back at some of the main D&I stories from the past year.
