If your website’s careers page isn’t delivering quality applicants, perhaps it’s time to revisit its message.

Too many careers pages are little more than boasts about the company’s successes and history as well as platitudes like “our people are our most important assets.”

Because most all of the really great people who want to work are already working and/or could work anywhere they want, it’s imperative to give these folks concrete, compelling reasons to apply.

How IBM and McDonalds handle their careers page

A couple of corporations that do a good job of this are IBM and McDonalds.

IBM tells potential applicants the three reasons they should apply are:

  • To do work that matters (make the world a better place);
  • To work and innovate with other talented experts;
  • To grow and share your expertise (on-going training & professional development programs);

McDonalds touts:

  • Flexible schedules;
  • Benefits;
  • Career opportunities.
